Common Signs of Cat Illness
There are things that you can do to help your cat live a longer, healthier life.
1. Have your veterinarian exam your cat at least once a year. This may seem strange if your pet appears healthy at home, but remember things are not always as they appear. A thorough physical exam, including a weight check, can uncover subtle signs of sickness that you may not have been aware of. It is also an opportunity for your veterinarian to get to know your cat better- pets can't talk to us, so how can your veterinarian fully understand when your pet is sick unless they have seen them when they are well?
2. Discuss preventative care measures with your veterinarian during your annual visit. By discussing your cat's current health and lifestyle, you and your veterinarian can decide how to best prepare for the future. You can talk about what parasites your cat is at risk for, which vaccines are appropriate, nutritional recommendations, or if your pet should be considered for senior bloodwork, for example.
